Taps:
Is it dripping? A constantly dripping tap will cause brown stains to appear on the bath or sinks. You can fit new washers but eventually you will need to replace it.

WCs:
Take the lid off the WC cistern. Use the flush and visually observe the system empty out and fill back up. If there are any symptoms like a juddering movement or strange noises, this means the WC needs adjustment and servicing. Any problems always consult an expert like a Harefield Plumber.

Inspection Covers:
Open any inspection covers on your property and inspect for crumbling concrete, debris or sludge in the gullies, holes and traps. These should be clean.

Septic Tanks: If you have one, check for unpleasant smells or soft ground surrounding the covers.

Drains: Again visually inspect all drainage looking for damage. If they are pottery you should consider plastic replacements.

Cold-Water Storage Cylinder:
This should have close fitting lid. Get help to run off some water and watch the re fill operation and cut off. Check level is lower than overflow. Any dripping water from valves, they need replacing.

Stopcock:
You should know the location of and check the operation of this particular valve i.e. ‘on’ and ‘off’ and if it is sluggish either way or will not turn then call the water supply company. Harefield Plumbers are a professional service.

Main Stopcock:
Usually under the sink, again check operation of both open and close positions and make sure water flow is good. If any problems occur it should be replaced.

Pipework:
Visually inspect all accessible copper pies and if there is green verdigris and dots of dampness they should be replaced.

Flooring:
Check all floors behind toilets, under sinks, in the hot water cylinder cupboard in fact anywhere water is running over and look for rusty and or wet patches.

Main Stopcock:
Usually under the sink, again check operation of both open and close positions and make sure water flow is good. If any problems occur it should be replaced.
