Below are some things to consider if you want to fit an electric shower at home. This shower heats cold water from the mains by moving it over an electric element and then pumped out via a showerhead. Harefield Plumbers are skilled tradesmen. This type needs a thermostat to control and regulate the temperature of the water. Mains supply provides the water and is run through a 15mm plastic pipe. If the unit needs mounting over the bath, there is no need to consider arrangements for the drain as they already exist and the bath is the shower cubicle and drain in one. If the shower is going to be fitted as part of a cubicle, you will need to refer to the manufacturers instructions.

Considerations:
The position for the shower components. The shower unit itself will need to be easily operated and functional. The spray head rail will need to provide lots of adjustment to suit the various different height of people who are using it.

Electrical Supply:
A Professional electrician’s skills are needed for this work, so plan your installation around this. A Harefield Plumber can provide or arrange this expertise.

Water Supply:
Holding the shower unit in position, mark the point at which it will be connected to the main feed. Fit a 15millimetre copper pipe from here to the supply. Where possible it should be set in the wall adjacent to the shower so that only a minimal amount of pipework is visible. An isolating valve should be fitted to the pipework near to the shower unit end, providing a separate means of isolation. Mount the shower unit on the wall as specified in the manufacturer’s instructions and connect to the water supply pipe with a compression fitting, or the supplied connector.

Isolate the supply for the rising main and connect a 15mm branch. Do this by fitting something called a ‘T’ piece, with compression or solder fittings depending upon the situation and your preference.
Turn the water back on and check for leaks.
