Old Sink Removed From The Worktop:
Place the sink in the hole and now make pencil marks for the taps and the waste pipes on the wall. Take out the sink again and run out the supply and waste pipework to the marked areas as needed. Should you feel confident to carry out this task, then call a professional plumbing service like Harefield Plumbers who can fit all types of new sink units. If you need to, cut a tap hole(s) in the sink. Cover over the tap location using some masking tape and make a small hole in the centre with a punch. Use large drill bits incrementally (masonry bits for ceramic sinks, metal bits for stainless steel) on the hole to increase the gap to the correct diameter for the taps.Fit the taps and waste outlet for the sink prior to being positioned in the worktop. Attach short copper pipe tails to each tap to make later installation and connection to supply easier. To guarantee a watertight seal, flip an inset sink upside down and put a line of silicone sealant all around the outer edge. This sealant should be on top of the lip for undermounted sinks, or on the sides of the sink of a sit on type. Locate the sink in its position in the top and secure it in place with the supplied brackets and screws. A Harefield Plumber is trained to install all pipe work.

Connecting The Taps and Waste Trap.
The current water regulations state that a pipe for waste must pass through the grid the covers a waste gully, but stop just before the water in the gully trap. Run a 40mm or 1.5in waste pipe through the outside wall into the gully, and then connect it to the waste pipe on the underside of the sink. Connect up the water supply pipes to the taps, it is a good idea to fit isolating valves to these pipes for ease of future servicing. Make sure that the sink is earth bonded in accordance with current IEE Wiring Regulations. To prevent electrocution, all metal parts must be connected together with an earth wire (min 4mm) via an earth clamp.

Having already removed the old sink, you may need to extend the length of the hot and cold water supply pipes so you can connect them to both inlets of the new taps. There will probably be a requirement to increase the length of the current waste outlet pipework to fit the trap for the new sink. Assemble the tap following the manufacturer’s instructions, and connect the pipes to their correct inlets.

Place the tap in the hole of the sink unit with its washers or back-plates as shown in the manufacturers diagram.
Fix the retaining clips underneath the lip of the sink unit, checking they are evenly spaced.
Run a continuous bead of the sanitary silicon sealant all around the outer edge of the new sink. A Harefield Plumber is qualified to fit all appliances.
Flip the new unit over and place it in the cut out in the worktop.
Now, working around from the underneath, begin to tighten the screws on all retaining clips.
Fit the waste pipework and trap to each other.
Put the rubber rings on the waste-pipe couplings. Connect the waste-pipe coupling onto the outlet of each sink bowl (if double).
Connect the hot and cold water supply pipes to the tap’s pipework with flexi-push fit connectors.
Fit the overflow pipe between the overflow on the sink and the inlet under the bowl and turn on the water supply. Visually check for leaks.
