The WC suite is made up from two different parts, those being the cistern and the pan. This cistern is either low or high level with a flush pipe to the pan or coupled directly. The various types can be supplied and fitted by Harefield Plumbers. Most cisterns are made from plastic or vitreous china better known as ceramic and are connected to the wall via screws. The flushing action is carried out either by push button or lever. The cistern needs to be located about 600mm above the floor including the base to guarantee the correct flush action. Water:The water supply is controlled by a valve system from either a storage cylinder or mains. The volume is still 9ltr but dual flush provides either 4.5 or 9ltr of water for flushing. The low level cistern is 200mm deep so cannot sit behind the pan, therefore a slim-line is used. The slim-line cistern is the same from side to side but only 115mm from front to back. This can still give a full flush and will conceal behind a panel.Dual Flush Type:Dual flush is a variant of a direct action cistern, providing a water-saving small flush or a larger flush for solid waste. A Harefield Plumber is qualified to advise on and fit any WC suite.Low Level Cistern:The low level type of WC suite can be linked to the pan by a short flush pipe or can be ‘close coupled’ meaning that both the pan and cistern are joined together to make one unit.WC Pans:Pans are usually vitreous china (ceramic) and screwed to the floor through pedestal holes. The can sometimes sit flush to the wall and also be wall hung. Their outlet pipe must connect to soil pipework that runs out from the house horizontally. Two types of pan exist, a wash down pan or double trap. Wash is the most common forcing water onto the sides of the pan taking the contents but leaving clean water behind. The double trap is not really used but empties by suction before the flush water reaches it, this design is quiet and efficient.
